Federal Councillor Albert Rösti is expected in the Baselland municipality of Pfeffingen by Hunt Watch at the end of October.

The animal rights organisation Hunt Watch has now been granted a permit by the municipality for a protest action at the prominent political event.

Almost every year, a member of the Federal Council can be encountered at this forum. The Minister of Transport will discuss the question «Infrastructure at its limit?» on 28 October with National Councillors Marcel Dettling (SVP, SZ), Roger Nordmann (SP, VD), Stefan Müller-Altermatt (Mitte, SO), Aline Trede (Greens, BE) and Susanne Vincenz-Stauffacher (FDP, SG).

The animal welfare advocates around the well-known Basel activist and police officer Olivier Bieli plan to raise the issue of Rösti’s wolf regulation policy. The current policy of wolf regulation through the culling of entire packs will be the magistrate’s responsibility to account for. «In this regard, we wish to take a counter position», explains hunting opponent Oliver Bieli.

«The presence of Mr Rösti in Pfeffingen gives us the opportunity to voice our criticism. «Otherwise, we rarely have the chance to come into contact with such an influential figure», says Bieli. The group intended to welcome the Federal Councillor with a stand-based action on the Allmend near the entrance to the multipurpose hall where the forum is taking place.

The municipality initially did not grant permission for the use of loudspeakers and megaphones, as it is a private event on private grounds, and referred the organizers to the relevant parties for clarification. The municipality in turn passed the matter back to the organizers, as the stand itself is planned on common land.

Following the municipal council meeting, it has now been decided that the stand action by the animal welfare advocates will be approved subject to conditions.

Participatory action: Petition your municipality for a tax remission on federal and cantonal taxes, citing the disastrous policies of Federal Councillor Albert Rösti (SVP) in connection with the recently approved culling of wolves in Switzerland.
