In Lübben, Brandenburg, a recreational hunter massacred a deer in a cruel manner during a tracking hunt. PETA and others subsequently filed a criminal complaint with the Cottbus public prosecutor's office. The prosecutor's office announced that no criminal proceedings would be initiated. PETA has lodged an appeal against this decision with the General Public Prosecutor's Office.
Video shows death struggle lasting several minutes
The nearly six-minute video shows a deer that has been chased into a garden pond being prevented by the recreational hunter and his dogs from escaping the pond. The recreational hunter stabs the animal repeatedly in the flank with a knife and ultimately pushes its head underwater.
