Referendum against the Desecration of the Landscape
An alliance has launched a referendum against the Electricity Act. The protection of nature and landscape is at risk of being sacrificed to energy production.
The people shall decide on the law on a secure electricity supply from renewable energies.
A newly founded alliance has launched a referendum. It criticises the fact that the framework legislation leaves the protection of nature and landscape by the wayside.
Most environmental organisations accepted that nature and landscape would be sacrificed to electricity production, the Alliance for Nature and Landscape Switzerland argued before the media in Bern. The framework legislation gives priority to renewable energy production facilities over nature and landscape protection.
Therefore, the people should decide on the framework legislation. The alliance, founded with a view to the referendum, has until 18 January to gather the 50’000 signatures required for the referendum to succeed.
Following the referendum, it intends to support further projects, including an initiative demanding that the potential of buildings and infrastructure be fully exploited for solar energy production before modules are installed in the landscape.
