CDU politician Sarah Schweizer demanded that more raccoons be shot and their fur processed into handbags. PETA campaign director Peter Höffken: «The stigmatization of the raccoon as an invasive species is unjust. Studies show that it does not threaten our native birds at all.»
Raccoon hobby hunting is useless
Increased culling is pointless: the animals simply reproduce even more as a result. Most recently, 6’000 raccoons per year were killed in Baden-Württemberg, an increase of 3’000% compared to 2005.
