Marten in the home: how to recognise an infestation

Scurrying noises and thumping in the attic can be signs of a marten infestation. Ordinary homeowners are not permitted to trap or kill martens. Stone martens are subject to hunting law.

Deterrence instead of killing

In the long term, martens can only be kept out by making the building inaccessible to them. During the rearing of young in spring, access must not be blocked.

Marten in the car

Martens seek shelter in the engine compartment and chew through cables or hoses. Marten grilles, protective sleeves and engine washing can help. More on the topic Wildlife and Species protection.
