ITA Airways bans transport of hunting trophies
ITA Airways joins the campaign of the international organisation Humane Society International/Europe and introduces a ban on the transport of hunting trophies on its flights, both as cargo and as passenger luggage.
New corporate policy against trophy transport
Italy's leading airline, ITA Airways, proudly announces its support for the #NotInMyWorld campaign by the global animal welfare organisation Humane Society International/Europe (HSI).
The airline has adopted a new corporate policy prohibiting the transport of hunting trophies on all company flights, both as cargo and as passenger luggage. This is a significant testament to the company's commitment to conservation as well as a substantial contribution to ending trophy hunting.
Italy among the main importing countries
At the national level, ITA Airways' commitment carries particular significance, as Italy is among the main trophy-importing countries in Europe. Between 2014 and 2021, 442 mammal trophies protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) were imported into Italy, including hippos, rhinoceroses, elephants and lions. 86% of Italians oppose this practice, and 74% support a legal ban on the import of trophies.
An increasing number of airlines adopt trophy bans
«ITA Airways' support for our campaign and their new corporate policy represents a necessary contribution to ending the cruel practice of trophy hunting. The transport sector also plays a major role in the collective measures required to protect endangered wildlife around the world.»
Elise Allart, Corporate Engagement Director, HSI/Europe
In addition to ITA Airways, an increasing number of airlines, freight operators and transport companies worldwide have introduced corporate policies against the transportation of trophies.
