Ban on Earth Hunting in the Canton of Zurich
Since the beginning of the year, earth hunting has been banned in the Canton of Zurich. In this type of hunting, dogs are sent into fox or badger dens to flush out the wild animals and drive them directly in front of the hobby hunter's gun.
The worst form of hunting: earth hunting
From the perspective of animal welfare various practices common in hobby hunting are not only problematic, but can be described as contrary to animal welfare legislation. The ban on earth hunting in the Canton of Zurich was long overdue.
In earth hunting, wild animals are driven out of their safe underground dens by dogs. Bloody underground fights between the dogs and the hunted wild animals are not uncommon. The animals can inflict considerable injuries on one another. More on the topic of animal welfare issues in hobby hunting.
