Hobby hunter shoots woman during wild boar hunt
A hobby hunter shot and killed a woman during a wild boar hunt. The fatal hunting accident highlights the dangers of unregulated recreational hunting.
During a wild boar hunt in Brittany, a 67-year-old hobby huntress from England was shot and killed.
A shot from her companion's rifle struck the British woman above the heart, judicial sources reported on Sunday. She was taken to a hospital in Saint-Brieuc, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The responsible prosecutor Nicolas Heitz announced that the senile 69-year-old hobby hunter was initially taken into custody. Due to his state of health, however, he had to be transferred to hospital. The exact circumstances of the fatal hunting accident still needed to be clarified, said Heitz.
According to initial findings, the hobby hunter had been carrying his rifle over his shoulder with the barrel pointing backwards. Tests showed that the hobby hunter was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Approximately a dozen hunters had participated in the wild boar hunt. They were on a harvested maize field near Goudelin when the fatal shot was discharged.
