Hobby hunter manipulates udder of a roe deer mother
Based on evidence, the former game warden had his hunting licence revoked last September.
About ten years ago, he was head of the game wardens in the canton of Ticino.
Lactating roe deer shot
After retiring, he switched sides of the fence, going from inspector to inspected. In the Val Onsernone, during the open hunting season, he shot a lactating roe deer — prohibited under Swiss hunting law.
The case goes to criminal court
The hobby hunter left after shooting the animal, even though he had been checked by a game warden, who confirmed that the roe deer was a nursing female. The hobby hunter, however, took a different route home.
At the inspection point, he denied having made an illegal kill. The laboratory immediately noticed that something was wrong: the animal's udder had been “tampered with” and the milk had been removed. A substance not found in nature was detected inside. In addition, the teats showed visible burn marks.
The cantonal Office for Recreational Hunting and Fisheries in Bellinzona initiated administrative proceedings. The former head of hunting had his hunting licence revoked for one year and was fined over 1,000 francs.
