Father shoots his son with a shotgun
A father shot his son with a shotgun. Weapons in private households remain a deadly danger.
On Sunday morning, 7 August 2022, a shooting occurs near the train station in Agno TI.
The young Ticino resident named Arnold is hit in the hip and taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The tragic end of a dispute that, according to statements, was connected to a robbery. The 49-year-old perpetrator was later arrested in his apartment.
The identity of the shooter quickly becomes known. It is the victim's own father! Officers arrest the man at his apartment. He is said to have fired the weapon at his son. The motive, as RSI reports, is a dispute over stolen goods worth 80’000 francs. The man insists that the shots were fired accidentally.
The journey from his home in Rovio in the Val Mara to Via Aeroporto in Agno will likely be at the centre of the investigation, because if the man made the trip on a moped while carrying the weapon — a sawn-off shotgun, calibre 22 — this could worsen his situation and support the hypothesis of premeditation. The weapon — which is also used in hobby hunter circles — was found on the way to the apartment shared by the two.
The charges against the father include attempted murder with manslaughter as well as violation of the Federal Weapons Act.
7 August begins like many Sundays. At around 10 o'clock, Ines Laurenti is sitting on the balcony on the fifth floor when there is a sudden bang. «I had just poured myself a coffee when I heard three shots», says the woman from Ticino, «they came from the direction of the train station». Laurenti looks down at the street. She watches as a young man runs cursing into Via Aeroporto. «He kept looking back, as if he feared being followed».
His left hand is pressed against his hip. «Then he looked at his hand. It was covered in blood», the witness recalls, «I was really frightenedn». But the person who was shot also seems horrified. The man then reportedly screamed for help — and that he had been shot, as documented by BLICK.
The son was seriously injured and remains in a critical condition, but is no longer in danger of death.
