Fascinating griffon vultures are back
For around ten years, griffon vultures have been circling regularly over Switzerland again. Their return is a success story of European nature conservation.
A conservation success story
For around ten years, griffon vultures have been circling regularly in the skies over Switzerland again. Thanks to a reintroduction project in France, over 3’000 pairs are now breeding there once more. Several hundred griffon vultures spend the summer in our mountains.
An important ecological function
Vultures ensure that putrefying flesh is quickly removed and that pathogens do not spread. Their decline in Africa and Asia due to shooting and poisoning is deeply concerning. More on the topic of species protection, bird conservation and biodiversity.
