This impressive mobilisation is testament to the strong awareness and commitment of the population towards nature conservation in Switzerland.

Freie Landschaft Schweiz is committed to the preservation and stewardship of natural landscapes. In the face of advancing urbanisation and intensive agriculture, the protection of Swiss landscapes is of crucial importance. The initiative calls for measures to safeguard natural resources and promote biodiversity.

More than 125’000 signatures were collected for each of the Forest Protection Initiative and the Community Protection Initiative. Over 108’000 signatures were submitted for the Community Protection Initiative, and over 112’000 for the Forest Protection Initiative.

Nature conservation is under threat from the construction of large wind farms in Switzerland. In the name of climate protection, the felling of important natural areas to erect massive wind turbines is not being ruled out. Cutting down trees to protect the climate is utter nonsense! This initiative demands that forests be protected from the construction of wind turbines.

The environment surrounding our place of residence directly affects our well-being and quality of life. The beauty of the landscape and proximity to green spaces are important for relaxation and for enjoying the benefits of nature. The construction of wind farms in the vicinity of residential areas threatens quality of life and well-being. This second initiative demands that every wind energy project is put to a vote by the eligible voters in the municipalities affected by the installation. This gives the population the right to defend their well-being, their quality of life, and the attractiveness of their community.

The signature collection process

In a committed and concerted effort, the supporters of the initiative collected signatures over several months. This campaign has garnered not only the support of nature and animal protection organizations, but also of numerous citizens who advocate for the future of their landscapes and their environment.

The successful collection of signatures demonstrates the strong interest of the Swiss population in sustainable and environmentally friendly development. The initiative aims to show political decision-makers that a broad segment of the population regards the protection of landscapes as a priority.

Upon reaching the target, the signatures will be carried to the Federal Palace in Bern on July 25, 2025. Important decisions lie ahead, and the supporters of Freie Landschaft Schweiz are optimistic that their voice will be heard. It remains to be seen how political bodies will respond to the demands and what measures will ultimately be taken to advance nature conservation in Switzerland.

Let us hope that the initiative serves as a catalyst for positive change and helps to preserve the beauty and diversity of Swiss nature for future generations as well.
