End of Fur Farming in Norway
The last two fur farms in Norway will close at the end of January 2023. The statutory ban does not come into force until 2025.
Last Fur Farms Close
According to the Norwegian Fur Breeders' Association, the last two fur farms in Norway will close permanently at the end of January 2023. This brings the industry to an end two years before a statutory ban comes into force in 2025.
On 13 June 2019, the Norwegian Parliament passed a law banning fur farming. According to Dyrevernalliansen, there were still more than 1’000 fur farms in Norway in 2001, a number that had fallen to just 80 by early 2021.
Next Goal: Import Ban
It is wonderful to know that no new fox cubs or mink kittens will be born in cages in Norway. Our next goal is a ban on the import of fur products into Norway. Fur farming is animal cruelty, no matter where in the world it is practiced.

The European Citizens' Initiative Fur Free Europe calls for a ban on fur farming and the sale of farmed fur products throughout the European Union. More on the topic of animal rights.
