4.5 tonnes of cocaine disguised as animal feed
On 28 January, the ship ORION V, en route from Colombia to the Middle East, was stopped off the Canary Islands. On board, 4.5 tonnes of cocaine were found, disguised as animal feed.
The ship is linked to both drug trafficking and animal exploitation . In June 2020, police discovered 5’000 cattle from Colombia during a drug raid, found to be in an alarmingly poor condition. The drug-sniffing dogs were unable to work due to the smell of ammonia.
Ban live export
The fact that this trade has come under the scrutiny of smugglers is yet another wake-up call to ban the cruel live export once and for all. Exporting live animals and accepting their cruel slaughter in third countries is incompatible with the values of the European Union. More on the topic of crime.
