Antlers are frequently spotted on the forest floor when the snow recedes, but footage of the actual shedding is extremely rare.
Derek Burgoyne spends his time in remote locations filming Canadian moose. He was thrilled when he was able to capture the moose shedding its antlers in the forests of central New Brunswick.

The aerial footage shows the moose pausing in the forest, shaking until both antlers fall off, and then bolting away after being startled.
Why do moose shed their antlers?
When a moose sheds its antlers, it loses a considerable amount of weight in the process. All members of the deer family shed their antlers, including its largest member, the moose.
Only male moose have antlers, the growth of which is regulated by testosterone. The antlers can weigh up to 30 kilograms. The moose sheds them during the winter months so that it can conserve more energy during the cold season. More on the topic of Wildlife.
