Commentary on the ZDF Programme «Recreational Hunters in the Trap»
A German television broadcaster aired a documentary about part of the hunting racket, which caused quite a stir.
Lucas von Bothmer was also part of the programme. The hunting lobby had already exerted boorish pressure on the broadcaster beforehand, presumably in the hope that the truth would not be allowed to be shown.
The hunting lobby displayed its usual boorishness toward the MDR broadcaster as well, which delivered the report «Hunted Hunters – Between Love of Nature and Blood Sport» during prime time into people’s cosy living rooms.
The ZDF report correctly cites a study stating: «Where more hunting takes place, animal populations grow faster». This includes wild boar. There are similar academic studies and case examples showing the same pattern for other wildlife species as well — much to the discomfort of hunters.
The astonished viewer also learned that today’s hunting racket traces its roots back to Hitler’s associates.
Lucas von Bothmer is editor-in-chief of the violence-promoting rag «jägermagazin.de» and explained to the bewildered viewer that recreational hunters are the ones who love wildlife most in the cultivated landscape. The recreational hunter loves what he kills. At that statement, the recreational hunter had to swallow hard and, in the very next breath, described supplementary feeding as Christian neighbourly love — by which he meant fattening up wildlife for the kill.
The film crew then accompanied the ever-busy recreational hunter Lucas von Bothmer into a forest in the Lüneburg Heath, where viewers could watch with fascination as the heavily armed wildlife killer helped himself, thief-like, to his favourite domain — the commons. He came away empty-handed, though by evening there was still game from the recreational hunters’ freezer to fall back on.
On camera, he raved — as if in a frenzy — about a piece of meat from a young stag. He forgot that he would be virtually unable to swallow this health-damaging meat without seasoning and a sauce. It is no coincidence that the Federal Office for Risk Assessment advises pregnant women, children, and others not to eat game meat due to its toxicity. The liver of all people is unable to process uric acid after consuming game meat, which can lead to rheumatism, arthrosis, gout, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, and so on. A strikingly large number of recreational hunters suffer from these diseases after spending years «meditatively!» in the nature they have disfigured.
In a summary of the statements made by recreational hunter Lucas von Bothmer, one can identify formal egocentric errors in reasoning that point to serious psychological disorders. The recreational hunter has two faces, and he has lost control of the negative one. At least he still knows that there was a Christ who preached love and eternal life — not eternal hunting grounds.
In the ZDF documentary, the relevant scene also features film clips known as «hunting pornos,» as well as sectarian rituals in the forest. It becomes clear to everyone that this is a death cult — in Christian-influenced civilization one might also say «something hellish» — in which the recreational hunter feels right at home.
Towards the end of the film segment, one could finally breathe a sigh of relief and was glad that the cameras turned to Geneva.
Public outrage over the hunting community varies from region to region. This really only means that recreational hunters have no concept that holds up under closer scrutiny. The common denominator of the hunting community everywhere is always nothing more than hunters’ tall tales.
For the normal part of the population, this means they can only hope that nature will not continue to resemble a war zone and graveyard managed by hunters’ hands, where huntable wild animal species are forced to hide, stressed and in constant fear of death.
Abolishing recreational hunting would represent an enormous gain in quality of life for everyone, as the example of Geneva and other regions shows. Nature is in desperate need of professional wildlife management.
