Capercaillie found dead in the Canton of Zug
As human intervention is currently considered the most likely cause of death, a complaint is being filed against persons unknown.
Despite protective measures having been put in place, a capercaillie was found dead yesterday in the Höhronen–Gutschwald area.
Capercaillie populations have been declining for decades. At the same time, their range has shrunk. In order to secure the capercaillie population in Switzerland over the long term, the federal government and the cantons have designated protected areas. The birds depend on low-disturbance, loosely stocked, and richly structured coniferous forests at higher elevations.
Conflicts with recreational use have increased
The use of forests as recreational space has increased significantly. The potential for conflict is particularly high because the area lies on the edge of a major recreational zone and two male capercaillies are displaying their courtship behavior in the vicinity of two paths. A ranger service carries out regular checks on site.
Capercaillie found dead
On 14 May 2021, a dead capercaillie was found in the middle of the road. The wildlife wardens, called to the scene immediately, determined that the animal had most likely died very recently as a result of a broken neck.
As human intervention is currently considered the most probable cause of death, the Office for Forest and Wildlife will file a complaint against persons unknown.
Evidently, these hobby hunters are neither well trained nor do they possess a sound moral compass.
Particularly when it comes to hunting and hobby hunters, it is essential that the public pays very close attention. Nowhere else is there so much manipulation through falsehoods and fake news.Violence and lies are two sides of the same coin. Recreational hunting has been nothing other than a permanently costly construction site, a patchwork, and a source of conflict for politicians, forestry and agriculture, public administrations, the judiciary, health insurers, insurance companies, animal welfare, environmental and nature conservation organizations, the police, the federal government, the media, and so on, for decades.
Any other organization with so much criminal energy would have long since come under the scrutiny of the Attorney General's office!
