Ban for 6’000 Species

Members of Parliament have voted for a ban on the import of hunting trophies from thousands of animal species into the United Kingdom. The ban applies to approximately 6’000 species, including hippos, leopards and polar bears.

The legislation was supported by celebrities such as Ricky Gervais, Brian May and Ed Sheeran. In 2015, the killing of the lion Cecil by a trophy hunter in Zimbabwe sparked outrage worldwide.

«A Decisive Moment»

«Our country does not want to be part of the trade in body parts of endangered species. Today the House of Commons sent that message loud and clear,» said MP Henry Smith. More on the topic of species conservation, hunting legislation and hobby hunting.
