Uli Hoeness scores an own goal
Uli Hoeness causes controversy with statements about vegan nutrition. The Bayern boss shows little understanding for plant-based alternatives.
Uli Hoeness has an opinion on almost every topic, but often very little knowledge.
The former Bayern chief is apparently worried about his sausage empire.
Hoeness rails against vegan nutrition
In a podcast by radio station Antenne Bayern, Uli Hoeness rages against vegan nutrition. He claims it makes people ill in the long run, and that people who live vegan are militant.
««I can still accept vegetarian to some extent, vegan not at all, because in the long run people just get sick», declared the 69-year-old former sausage manufacturer of his company HoWe Wurstwaren.
Uli Hoeness has himself been treated for heart problems and reportedly suffers from high blood pressure, according to media reports. With statements like these, Hoeness is manoeuvring himself offside.
The consumption of meat and dairy has been shown in numerous studies to be closely linked to cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
Sausage is the cigarette of the future
PETA kindly invites Uli Hoeness to take part in their Veganstart programme — so that he can continue to deal with short passes rather than bypasses.
Even the head of the company Rügenwalder Mühle, which now generates a large share of its revenue from plant-based sausage, recognized the writing on the wall back in 2014: «Sausage is the cigarette of the future», said Christian Rauffus at the time.
More and more people are recognising that a balanced plant-based diet is the best thing they can do for their body, for animals and for our planet, comments Harald Ullmann, Deputy Chair of PETA Deutschland e.V.
