South Africa: Notorious Trophy Hunter Shot Dead
A notorious trophy hunter in South Africa has been shot dead. The case is attracting international attention and sparking debate.
Riaan Naude, a trophy hunter in South Africa who was known for «proudly» posting photos of himself with innocent animals he had killed for his «passion», has been killed.
Naude's company Pro Hunt Africa has taken the lives of many threatened and endangered species across South Africa.
Environmentalist Julio César Martínez shared the news earlier this week on his Twitter account.
«The hunter who killed dozens of wild animals, Riaan Naude, was killed in his car while he was out hunting«, tweeted Martinez. «He was found with a gunshot wound to the head in Limpopo, South Africa.«
According to reports, Naude's lifeless body was found next to his car. Naude had reportedly pulled off the road near Mokopane because his vehicle had overheated. Hunting rifles, clothing, water, whiskey, and pyjamas were also found in his vehicle.
The motive for Naude's murder is not yet known, but it is rumoured that locals harboured deep hatred for the hobby hunter who had senselessly killed so many animals.
Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi, a spokesperson for the South African Police, said a cattle herder had heard a shot and seen a white van driving away from the scene.
This is reflected in the numerous comments with which people responded to the news of Naude's murder. Many spoke of «karma«, while one noted that «justice had finally been served«.
