Following the discovery of several dead birds of prey in eastern Bavaria that may have been killed by poison, police have consolidated their investigations.

Nine dead birds of prey discovered

Between 24 January 2021 and 23 February 2021, several dead birds of prey were found in the areas of Straubing, Plattling, Mengkofen, Strasskirchen, Osterhofen, and Oberschneiding. A total of nine animals have been found dead so far. Poison bait was found near at least two of them.

The dead birds were seized and sent to the veterinary faculty in Oberschleissheim to determine the exact cause of death.

Police appeal for information

Police advise anyone who finds a dead bird of prey to contact the police first. In particular, any bait that may have been laid out should not be touched or moved. Tips can be directed to the Straubing Police Station, tel. 09421/868-0.
