Pizza Hut Germany sells vegan pizzas
The time has finally come: the major fast-food chain Pizza Hut announced in mid-June 2022 that it would be adding vegan pizzas to its menu.
Pizza Hut Germany has launched its first vegan pizzas.
The fast-food chain now offers three completely animal-free pizzas, all topped with vegan Violife cheese.
There is the Tuscany Spicy Vegan, topped with bruschetta, jalapeños and balsamic vinegar. The Smokey BBQ Vegan is topped with vegan chicken, and the Vegan Chik’n’cheez comes with dairy-free cheese sauce and vegan chicken.
According to the company, Pizza Hut developed the vegan options in response to customer demand. The chain posted on Instagram:«You asked for it, and we made it happen.«
The chain has also launched a vegan pasta dish: Creamy Cheez Pasta Vegan.
The launch follows a petition by animal rights organisation PETA, which was started back in 2018. The organisation praised Pizza Hut as well as everyone who signed the petition in a public post.
«Together we are expanding the vegan offering«, PETA stated. «Every voice counts.» And further: «There has never been a better time for Pizza Hut Germany to take this landmark step.«
Fast food goes vegan
Pizza Hut offers several vegan options around the world. In the US, for example, the fast-food chain added vegan Beyond Meat pepperoni to its menu last year. In the United Kingdom, customers can choose from a wide range of options, including a vegan stuffed crust.
More fast-food chains than ever before are offering vegan options. In the United Kingdom, KFC, Burger King, McDonald’s, Greggs, Nando’s and Subway all have animal-cruelty-free variants on offer.
Earlier this year, leading restaurateur James Lewis predicted that the future of fast food is vegan.
He said: «There is no point in starting a vegan chain, because once McDonald’s figures out how to make a good vegan burger, they will think: Why bear the cost of keeping all these animals when we can make it just as well and grow it in the ground?‚»
