Headshot: Serious Hunting Accident During Duck Hunt
A serious hunting accident occurred on Saturday morning in Lippstadt. A hobby hunter was struck in the head by a ricochet.
53-Year-Old Struck in the Head by Ricochet
At 10:51 a.m. on Saturday morning, 19 August, the emergency call was received by the police.
A hobby hunter was seriously injured by a shot to the head. According to a police spokesperson, the accident occurred during a duck hunt in a wooded area near Gut Mentzelsfelde in the north of Lippstadt.
Rescue Helicopter Deployed
The hobby hunter who was struck, a 53-year-old man from Wadersloh, suffered serious injuries from the headshot but survived. The hobby hunter was airlifted to a specialist clinic by rescue helicopter.
Reportedly between eight and ten hobby hunters took part in the duck hunt. Psychological support was offered to those involved, in particular the 83-year-old hobby hunter from Rheda-Wiedenbrück, who according to initial findings had fired the fateful shot.
Public Prosecutor's Office Takes Over Investigation
As the police spokesperson announced, the Paderborn Public Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation. «Based on current knowledge, we are treating this as a hunting accident», said the police spokesperson.
