France: Dolphin deaths on the rise
The death toll of dolphins along and off the French coast has continued to rise, with the number of dead marine animals increasing further in recent years.
Hundreds of fatally injured dolphins washed ashore
Biologists and animal welfare advocates have called for a temporary halt to fishing off the French Atlantic coast after hundreds of fatally injured dolphins were washed up on the country's beaches, as Radio France International reported.
The issue also prompted the Ligue pour la protection des oiseaux (LPO) to call on French President Emmanuel Macron to take action.

In May 2019, a video report by VICE News revealed that since January of that year, more than 1’200 dolphins and porpoises had been washed up dead on the French coast. Activists have long suspected that overfishing is the cause.
