Cat toys: Why they are so important

On average, cats spend about two thirds of their lives recharging their batteries through sleep. A large portion of the remaining waking time is spent on activities that increase their chances of survival, including those that train hunting skills.

Cat toys are important because they promote the physical and mental health of cats.

By playing with toys, cats can live out their hunting instincts, stay active, reduce stress and receive mental stimulation.

Popular types of toys for cats

There is a wide variety of cat toys that can entertain cats for hours. Some popular options include:

  1. Interactive toys: These include toys that dispense treats when the cat plays with them, or electronic toys that move and make sounds.
  2. Feather toys: Cats love to chase and catch feathers, so toys with feathers are often a great success.
  3. Balls and mice: Small balls that roll and make sounds, as well as toy mice that appeal to the cat's hunting instincts, are also popular.
  4. Scratching toys: Scratching boards, cat trees or scratching posts serve not only for claw sharpening, but also often offer play and climbing opportunities.
  5. Tunnels and hideaways: Cats love to hide and hunt. A tunnel or hideaway toy can therefore bring great joy.
  6. Puzzle toys: There are also special toys in which the cat must search for treats or puzzle them out in order to reach its reward.

It is important to take into account the preferences of the individual cat and to try out different toys to find out what it likes best.

Health and Animal welfare

Cat toys are invaluable for ensuring the health and wellbeing of cats.

By playing with toys, cats can stay both physically and mentally active. The physical activity stimulated by playing with toys can help maintain an ideal weight, preserve muscle mass, and support bone health.

At the same time, playing with toys also provides mental stimulation by giving cats the opportunity to act on their instincts and sharpen their cognitive abilities. Furthermore, playing with toys can help reduce stress, ward off boredom, and boost a cat's self-confidence.

By trying out different types of toys, cat owners can also get to know their cat's individual preferences and needs better, thereby building a deep and fulfilling bond overall. In short, cat toys are not only healthy, but also extremely enriching for the lives of cats.
