Human rights must also be applied to animals, it was stated. They too have the right not to be killed, captured, tortured, or sold. Animals are sentient beings capable of feeling pain and joy. The worldwide bloodshed of breeding, recreational hunting, fishing, and animal experimentation must be brought to an end.

Over 25 Cities Worldwide

The “Official Animal Rights March” takes place this year on 25 August, 1 September, and 6 October in over 25 cities worldwide, including Berlin, Manila, Toronto, and New York.

The event was founded by Surge, an animal rights organisation in England. The march affirms the success of the vegan movement, but also serves as a platform to stand in solidarity with exploited animals.

The march is an expression of a society that has changed its relationship with animals, and a model for a world that not only talks about animal welfare but actually lives it.

The rally in Geneva was organised by the association “Pour l’égalité des animaux” (PEA). More on animal rights.

More on the subject of recreational hunting: What the research says about this is shown by Hunting fact-checked: the state of research.

The position of IG Wild beim Wild: IG Wild beim Wild rejects recreational hunting. Our model is the canton of Geneva, which has managed without recreational hunting since 1974: without hunting seasons, without hunting dogs, without driven hunts, without high seats, without the animal cruelty and crime that go hand in hand with hunting season elsewhere. What has worked there for over fifty years disproves every position paper by JagdSchweiz. An association that bases its policy on claims it refutes in its own documents is not a professional organisation, but a factory for misinformation.
