Animal welfare organisations in the United States, Canada and England protested on Saturday, 9 October 2021, against the killing of animals for fashion.

International Anti-Fur March

In Boston, Los Angeles, New York City, Washington, Portland, Toronto and London, demonstrators took to the streets for the International Anti-Fur March. They want the suffering of millions of animals used for fashion to come to an end.

In Toronto, a man covered in fake blood took to the streets, and demonstrators held signs reading «Your fur had a face»,Your fur had a face», «Animals need their fur, you don’t» and «This is not fashion, this is violence.»

«“We had a huge mobile banner showing all the horrific methods used to kill and torture animals for their fur”, said animal rights activist Rachel Levy Ejsmont about the march in New York City, where over a hundred people marched down the famous shopping street Fifth Avenue.

Over 100 Million Animals Die Each Year

Many fashion brands such as Gucci, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen have announced they will not use fur in their upcoming collections. But brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Louis Vuitton and Fendi continue to exploit animals for their fur.

According to the animal welfare organisation Four Paws, over 100 million animals die every year for fur used in the fashion industry.

Most fur comes from farms in China and Europe, where minks, raccoon dogs, chinchillas, foxes and other animals are kept in tiny wire cages from birth and killed before they reach one year of age.
