Wildcats – Beware of Confusion!
The European wildcat is not a feral domestic cat. It is only distantly related to our domestic cats. Even experts are often unable to distinguish wildcats from domestic cats by appearance alone. Ultimately, only an expensive genetic test provides certainty.
6’000 to 8’000 wildcats in Germany
The wildcat is expanding its range in Germany in an encouraging way. Between 6’000 and 8’000 animals live in native forests. Wildcat offspring are repeatedly confused by mistake with domestic kittens.
