Template text: Restriction of ambush hunting
1. Motion
The Government Council is instructed to amend the hunting ordinance so that ambush hunting is more strictly regulated. In particular, it must be ensured that
- the baiting (feeding) of wild animals for hunting purposes is prohibited throughout the cantonal territory
- night ambush hunting of wild animals is fundamentally prohibited
- elevated hunting blinds are subject to licensing requirements
- quiet zones where no ambush hunting may take place are bindingly designated
- the feeding of wild animals outside of officially authorized emergency feeding is prohibited year-round
- unlicensed elevated hunting blinds must be dismantled within 30 days
2. Brief justification
Baiting conditions wild animals to human food sources, creates artificial concentration points and promotes the transmission of wildlife diseases. Night ambush hunting remains despite modern Night vision technology associated with increased risk of missed shots and misidentification. The nocturnal rest period is the only time of undisturbed feeding for many wildlife species.
