An urgent appeal, not only at the pre-Christmas season: In the new campaign image for PETA Germany, Désirée Nosbusch appears as a reptile. The message: “I am not a fashion accessory!” Together with the animal rights organisation, the actress and presenter urges all consumers not to buy exotic leather — including during the upcoming holiday season. In the making-of video of the shoot, the Luxembourg-born star explains how brutal leather production is and how many animals are killed for a single crocodile leather handbag.
„“You have to bear in mind that the skin of four crocodiles goes into making a single handbag. The animals have their necks slit without any anaesthetic, and then a metal rod is driven into their spinal cord,” says Désirée Nosbusch. “Does anyone really still need to ask whether they want a bag like that? No, right? Please show compassion and do not buy exotic leather.”“
Désirée Nosbusch has appeared in many international and national productions as an actress and presenter. In the multiple award-winning ZDF miniseries “Bad Banks” — production of the second season began in early 2019 — Désirée Nosbusch shines as an ice-cold bank executive. She has recently been nominated for the DafF Award for her acting performance. She has just finished filming the lead role in the two-part “Der Irlandkrimi” directed by Züli Aladag, which is scheduled to air on ARD in autumn 2019. She has been supporting PETA Deutschland for years: she hosted PETA Germany's press conference on its fifth anniversary and has already produced a campaign against fur. The mother of two children speaks six languages fluently and divides her time between Berlin and Luxembourg.

Crocodiles live in groups, protect their young, and even use tools. The natural life expectancy of alligators is 50 years, while that of crocodiles can reach 80 years or more. On breeding farms, however, alligators are killed at just one year of age and crocodiles at only three years. Snakes are sensitive creatures that recognize family members and engage in elaborate mating rituals. Many species care for their young. These animals are excellent actors: to deceive predators, some species play dead by rolling onto their backs, going limp, and letting their tongues hang out. Some snakes even emit a rancid odor to keep predators at bay.
PETA Deutschland and Désirée Nosbusch share the view that animals are not here to be cruelly killed for clothing or accessories.
