Bear kills jogger on forest path in northern Italy
According to initial reconstructions, the young man attempted to defend himself against the bear's attack with a stick.
Jogger attacked by bear
A bear attacked and killed a jogger on a forest path in northeastern Italy. Andrea Papi, 26, was killed on 5 April 2023 while jogging in the Trentino region. He had deep wounds on his neck, arms and chest.
Debate over reintroduction
In March, a man was attacked by a bear in the same region, triggering a debate about the danger posed by these animals . Annamaria Procacci of the animal welfare organisation ENPA criticised the lack of precautionary measures taken by local authorities. Bears normally keep their distance from humans.
