Template text: Abolition of special hunting

1. Motion

The government council is instructed to submit a proposal to abolish the special hunt and replace it with targeted interventions by professional game wardens. In particular, it must be ensured that

  • special hunting as an independent hunting period is abolished
  • any regulatory interventions after the regular hunting season are carried out exclusively by cantonal employed game wardens
  • the necessity must be examined in advance by an independent wildlife ecological expert body
  • special hunting may not be replaced by another form of delegated recreational hunting
  • the saved costs flow into expanding the professional game warden corps
  • the government council examines within five years whether the regular high hunting season can also be gradually transferred to the game warden model can be transferred

2. Brief justification

Special hunting exists because regular recreational hunting regularly fails to meet self-imposed culling targets. Instead of concluding that the militia system is unsuitable, an additional hunting period is added. This is not an ecological necessity, but an organizational failure. The Canton Geneva has demonstrated for over 50 years that professional wildlife management works without recreational hunting.
